FCT area council poll: ‘He has access to govt, supports Tinubu’ – Wike backs AMAC Chairman

Ahead of the area council election in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, the minister, Nyesom Wike, has openly backed the Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Chairman, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for another term.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had announced that the FCT Area Council election will hold on Saturday 21st February 2026.

Speaking on Thursday, Wike said Maikalangu has been able to leverage his access to the government to bring some infrastructure to the people of the FCT and its satellite towns.

The minister spoke during the flagging-off the construction and expansion of water supply to FCT Satellite towns, Lot 2; Karu town and environs in Abuja Municipal Area Council, on Thursday.

Wike said Maikalangu can make demands on behalf of the people and the government would meet such demands.

He said: “One thing about government and politics, support those who have the capacity to bring something to the people, don’t support people who will go on television talking with nothing to show.

“Support those that the government will listen to, don’t support those every day is just to cry on national television, this is not the time to cry, it’s time to bring something to the people.”

Wike noted that as a result of Maikalangu’s access to the FCT administration, several roads across the capital city have been done by the government.

He said: “The Chairman of AMAC who is very good, humble, and is working with us. Since he became AMAC Chairman, he has brought government to do Saburi road, he has brought government to do Ketti-Kabusa road, he has brought the government to do Kabusa to Katabushina road, he has brought the government to do Deidei road, what again do you want from such a person?

“A person who can go to the government to say give us this and the government will give you, why waste time with others who have no access to government?

“For me, I’m here to talk about people who have access to the government and bring something to the people. Your Chairman has access to us and anything he tells us we will do.”

Wike warned residents against voting for the wrong candidates who will fail in their responsibility upon assumption of office.

The minister said he will support the current AMAC Chairman because he supports President Bola Tinubu.

“Don’t go and support somebody that if he wins you will be crying here, this is the only man I know that if he wins as Chairman of AMAC, we will give you whatever you want.

“I don’t know the party he belongs to but I know he supports Tinubu and anybody who supports Tinubu I will support him,” he added.
