Northeast Basic Education School Sports competition begins in Yola

The basic education school sports featuring teams from the six states of the North East has started in the Adamawa State capital, Yola

The Northeast zonal finals of the Basic Education School Sports, BESS, commenced with the team of Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board defeating their Borno counterparts 3–0.

On the opening day too, Adamawa SUBEB (State Universal Basic Education Board) team secured a 3–1 victory over Taraba SUBEB.

The opening matches drew large crowds of spectators and dignitaries, including the Acting Chairman of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), Dr. Aliyu Sa’ad, and the National UBEC Coordinator of School Sports (UBEC), Dr. Lydia Gbagi.

Speaking at the event, Aliyu Sa’ad highlighted the importance of sports in promoting discipline, teamwork, and unity among young learners.

The BESS competition, organized by the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, ADSUBEB, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, drew participants from across the North-East states of Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Borno and host Adamawa.

It is scheduled to run through to Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Federal College of Education Sports Complex, Yola, where the young athletes will compete in football, volleyball, and handball.
