Bishop Emeritus of the Nsukka Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Francis Emmanuel Ogbonna Okobo, is dead.

Okobo died early Friday morning at the age of 89, according to a statement issued by Rev Fr Amuluche Greg Nnamani, Vicar General of the Diocese.

DAILY POST reports that the late Bishop was born on November 4, 1936, and ordained a Catholic priest on June 4, 1966.

Okobo was later appointed as the first Bishop of the Diocese on November 19, 1990, and consecrated on January 6, 1991.

The deceased cleric served until his retirement on April 13, 2013, upon reaching the statutory retirement age of 80.

Meanwhile, tributes have begun to pour in on social media for the late clergyman, who is remembered for his pioneering role in establishing and nurturing the Nsukka Diocese.
