A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has suggested that there is resistance within the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the possible defection of former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the party.

Jibrin spoke on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

He said some stakeholders in the Kano APC are opposed to Kwankwaso’s entry, particularly those with governorship ambitions.

“If you say Kwankwaso is moving into APC, or we are moving to APC, even within the APC in Kano, you have a lot of people that wouldn’t want him to come, perhaps those who want to be governor, or those who don’t want to be governor, etcetera,” Jibrin said.

He noted that discussions on Kwankwaso’s political alignment are still ongoing, stressing that his own position had always been to promote stability and support a government of national unity.

“I’ve tried to ensure that in the interest of Kano, and by extension, Nigeria, there is some sort of stability in our polity. It is quite a complex process. But everyone knows that I’ve always advocated, even right from the beginning of the government, for us to work with a government of national unity. I never stop at that,” he added.
