Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup continue to fade following South Africa’s 3-0 victory over Lesotho on Friday.

Bafana Bafana came into the match top of the table and strengthened their position by taking the lead in the first half.

Mohau Nkota opened the scoring with a composed finish in the 15th minute.

South Africa then had to wait until the 63rd minute to double their advantage through Lyle Foster, before Oswin Appollis sealed the win just four minutes later.

The result leaves Hugo Broos’ side on 16 points after seven matches, five clear of second-placed Benin Republic, who are level on 11 points. Rwanda follow with eight points.
