The Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Zamfara State is still struggling to recover from the resignation of the former lawmaker.

The forum’s secretary, Mannir Bature Tsafe, in a statement on Tuesday, faulted the APC’s earlier claim that Marafa’s departure was “inconsequential,” noting that the party recently held a ceremony to welcome about 360 individuals it said were his supporters who defected to the ruling party.

Tsafe argued that the significance attached to the defection contradicted the APC’s initial dismissal of Marafa’s influence.

“The contradiction is obvious. If Senator Marafa was truly inconsequential, there would be no need for such a celebration over the reported defection of his supporters,” he said.

He added that the figure of 360 was marginal compared to Zamfara’s voting population, insisting that the APC was still grappling with the vacuum created by Marafa’s exit.

The forum also accused the party of recycling the same individuals under the guise of “mass defections” instead of prioritising reconciliation and restructuring.

Tsafe maintained that while Marafa had moved on to pursue his political ambition outside the APC, his influence would continue to shape political developments in the state.
