FG mourns victims of Niger tanker explosion

The Federal Government has expressed sorrow over the deaths of Nigerians following the petrol tanker explosion that occurred in Essa, Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in a statement on Wednesday, said the Federal Government commiserated with the government and people of Niger State.

Idris described the incident as heartbreaking and a reminder of the devastating consequences of fuel tanker accidents in Nigerian communities.

“The Federal Government expresses its deep sorrow over the tragic petrol tanker explosion that occurred in Essa, Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State, a few days ago, which claimed many innocent lives and left several others injured.

“We join the government and people of Niger State in mourning this painful loss. This heartbreaking incident has once again brought to the fore the devastating human and material consequences of fuel tanker accidents in our communities.

“Every Nigerian life is precious, and such avoidable tragedies serve as a painful reminder of the need for greater vigilance and adherence to safety instructions in times of emergency,” the statement read.

At least 30 people reportedly lost their lives, while around 40 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the tanker explosion.
