
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on the Sokoto State Government to include traditional rulers in the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage.
The appeal was made on Sunday during a Town Hall meeting organised by the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning ahead of the submission of the state’s 2026 budget proposal. The Sultan was represented by the District Head of Wurno, Alhaji Kabiru Cigari-Alhassan.
The meeting also featured contributions from representatives of persons with disabilities, women groups, and civil society organisations, who highlighted issues including water supply, school furniture, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abubakar Zayyana, said the meeting was aimed at widening consultations on the proposed 2026 budget.
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, assured participants that budget allocations would continue for projects in religious institutions, education, water, and healthcare, noting ongoing initiatives to improve electricity supply, school facilities, and child welfare programmes..
