The Imo State Government, in its resolve to rid the state of criminal elements, has cleared a particular spot allegedly used as a criminal hideout at the Naze Industrial Cluster, Owerri.

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Compliance and Monitoring, Nze Chinasa Nwaneri, the action is a targeted operation aimed at curbing the increasing security threats in the area.

He revealed that the exercise was undertaken in collaboration with security operatives after intelligence reports indicated that the cluster had gradually become a safe haven for criminal gangs.

During the demolition, a cache of weapons, including locally made arms and other incriminating objects, was recovered from the scene, and several suspects were apprehended for possible prosecution.

According to the special adviser, the demolished structures had been used to plan and coordinate criminal activities, including robbery, drug-related offences, and attacks on nearby communities and within the industrial area.

“Residents and business operators around the area expressed happiness and described the operation as timely and necessary to restore safety and allow legitimate enterprises to thrive without intimidation,” he said.
