A young lady has stirred strong emotions online after sharing her painful experience with her mother, who she says constantly regrets keeping her pregnancy.
In a detailed Facebook post, the lady explained that her mother often tells her she wishes she had “aborted” the pregnancy, adding that her life became difficult after giving birth to her.
The young woman, who is the second of four children, said the painful comments usually come whenever she makes even the smallest mistake.
Mother Allegedly Shows Favouritism
According to her, her siblings receive kinder treatment, even when they all commit the same actions. She narrated an incident where she, her elder sister, and a younger brother returned home late.
Her mother allowed the other two inside but insisted she sleep outside. With nowhere else to go, she spent the night on a carpenter’s table until morning.
She added that her siblings all attended boarding schools of their choice, while she alone was denied that opportunity because her mother claimed she had “no money” at the time.
She is now sponsoring herself through the University (UCC distance education programme) while also working to survive, even though her late father allegedly left enough resources to support all four children.
Claims of Unequal Treatment at Home
The lady further stated that her mother provides full support to her siblings, including the two currently in university, but gives her nothing.
Something as small as eating leftover food without permission causes anger, she said, while her siblings freely eat anything in the house without consequences.
She also revealed that her mother rarely speaks to her when they are alone at home, avoids her in shared spaces, and assigns her only house chores while refusing to trust her with simple tasks such as helping on her phone.
Important family information, she said, often reaches her through her youngest brother instead of directly from their mother.
Emotional Impact on the Young Lady
Despite these challenges, she said she performs excellently in school. She scored a single digit in BECE and obtained all A’s and two B’s in WASSCE—results better than any of her siblings, according to her.
Yet she still feels unwanted and does not understand why her mother allegedly treats her differently.
In her words: “I don’t know why my own mom doesn’t like me at all. I can’t even talk to her about the same stuff my siblings talk to her about. I wish I had the answers to what I’m going through.”
Her story has sparked widespread concern and sympathy online, with many users urging her to seek emotional support and assuring her that her worth is not defined by anyone’s rejection.
