The Adamawa State Government affirmed on Friday that all schools across the state remain open.
The government issued the affirmation after a rumour gained ground that schools had been shut in view of the prevailing security crisis.
It stressed in a statement passed to newsmen by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, that information circulating in some quarters that the state government has ordered schools to shut down is misleading and entirely untrue.
“At no point did the government direct schools to close, and we have no intention to do so,” the government stated, quoting Governor Fintiri as urging the public to disregard the rumour.
“Schools should continue with academic activities as usual,” the government stated, adding that it would not tolerate any attempt to undermine efforts to reposition the education sector.
It may, however, be recalled that the government had earlier in the week ordered the suspension of boarding in any school.
It asked all boarding schools to convert to day-only services, explaining a need to prevent abductions that have occurred in boarding schools in parts of the country in recent days.
