Oluremi Tinubu launches N50m empowerment scheme for persons with disabilities in Akwa Ibom

Nigeria’s First Lady and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Oluremi Tinubu, has rolled out a N50 million economic empowerment programme for persons with special needs in Akwa Ibom.

The launch was part of activities marking the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

At the launch event held inside the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Uyo, the First Lady represented by Lady Helen Eno Obareki through the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Inibehe Etukudo announced that 250 beneficiaries in each state and the FCT have been given N200,000 business recapitalisation grants.

According to her, the intervention is designed to help people with disabilities grow or revive their small businesses, strengthen their income sources, and boost their participation in national development.

“This programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks inclusive growth and shared prosperity by ensuring no Nigerian is left behind, especially those whose needs are often overlooked,” she said.

The First Lady added that every state and the FCT had already received N50 million for onward disbursement, amounting to support for 9,500 Nigerians living with disabilities nationwide.
