Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, has stirred fresh controversy online after appearing to taunt his colleague Davido over the latest Apple Music rankings.

Wizkid’s album “Morayo” has been announced as Apple Music’s most-streamed album of 2025 in Sub-Saharan Africa, beating Davido’s “5ive”, which secured the second position.

Before releasing 5ive, Davido had confidently declared that his album would “overshadow” all others released around the same time, an apparent reference many interpreted as a jab at Wizkid.

The comment generated widespread buzz on social media, with fans eagerly anticipating which project would dominate the charts.

Following Apple Music’s official announcement placing Morayo in the top spot, above Davido’s 5ive, Wizkid took to X (formerly Twitter) with what many saw as a direct clapback.

He wrote:
“Dem say album go swallow album dem dey ground dey smell now!”

The post has since gone viral, reigniting debates among Afrobeats fans and fuelling speculation about a renewed rivalry between the two global stars.

Wizkid’s tweet has drawn thousands of reactions, with supporters of both artists defending their favourites in what has become yet another round of the long-running ‘Wizkid FC vs. 30BG’ online rivalry.

While some fans celebrated Wizkid’s chart milestone, others criticised the shade, urging both artists to avoid unnecessary conflict.

As of press time, Davido has not responded to Wizkid’s remark or the Apple Music rankings. His silence has only intensified public curiosity about whether he will address the situation.

Both Wizkid and Davido remain two of Africa’s most influential music exports, with their albums performing strongly across global streaming platforms.

But with Wizkid’s Morayo taking the lead as Sub-Saharan Africa’s most-streamed album of 2025, the long-standing competitive tension between the two may be entering a new phase.
