Delta police arraign 18 over illicit drug sales

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on violent crime and illicit drug activities, recording major breakthroughs with the recovery of firearms in Abraka and the arraignment of eighteen suspects linked to drug-related offences across the State.

The documents shared on Saturday, noted thag, the operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, on 6 December 2025 carried out an intelligence-led operation at No. 2 Umeghe Community, Abraka.

Acting on credible intelligence, the team searched the residence of 67-year-old Isiakpere Friday, where they recovered two pump-action guns and thirty-nine live cartridges.

The suspect, however, was immediately taken into custody as investigators probe possible connections to cult groups, arms trafficking networks, and other criminal syndicates operating within the region.

In a different operation targeting drug abuse and distribution, the Buffalo Unit of the Command successfully concluded a series of raids in areas notorious for illicit drug sales, including Play-Learn Area, Sweet Spirit Area, and Pinnacle Junction.

The operations resulted in the arrest and arraignment of eighteen male suspects before a competent court on 5 December 2025.

Those charged include: Wisdom Nwanze (38), Godspower Vincent (25), Trust Bobua (17), David Mifford (21), Friday Daniel (35), Emmanuel Dakuru (25), Innatji Ekenea (27), Umar Isah (22), Samuel Hosanna (31), Rabiu Abubakar (31), Dada Usman (22).

Other suspects include, Dada Usman (20), Danjuma Jonathan (31), Onyeka Solomon (16), Garba Abdullaman (20), Rolniho Paul (26), Abwal Clarius (30), and Aliyu Abubarka (22). All suspects were remanded in prison custody pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the efforts of the operatives, describing the operations as evidence of the Command’s strengthened commitment to intelligence-driven policing.

He reaffirmed that the Command would not tolerate cultism, illegal arms possession, or any form of drug-related activity threatening public peace. He urged residents to continue supporting the Police with credible information to sustain ongoing efforts to secure the State.

Bright Edafe, the Command spokeperson, assured the public that the Command remains resolute in dismantling criminal structures and ensuring offenders face the full weight of the law.
