At least 114 people, including 63 children, were killed after a series of strikes hit a kindergarten and repeatedly targeted the nearby Kalogi Rural Hospital in South Kordofan State, according to data from the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Attacks on Health Care monitoring system.
Report indicated that after the outbreak of war in 2003, a news conflict erupted in April 2023, which has then been battle of survival.
The attacks, which occurred on 4 December, also left 35 people injured, forcing responders to transfer survivors to Abu Jebaiha Hospital for emergency treatment.
Health workers in the area have launched urgent appeals for blood donations and medical supplies as facilities struggle to cope with the influx of casualties.
WHO said the hospital was struck no fewer than three times, while paramedics and volunteers attempting to evacuate the injured from the kindergarten came under fire.
The agency described the assaults as “senseless attacks” on civilians and essential health services.
The United Nation (UN) health body reiterated its call for an immediate halt to the violence and insisted that humanitarian access must be widened to allow lifesaving assistance to reach communities caught in the conflict.
“Sudanese have suffered far too much,” the organisation added as it renewed demands for a ceasefire.
