
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has warned police officers in the state against extortion, bribery and any form of illegal demand from members of the public.
The warning was contained in a press statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, following a routine briefing with heads of departments and tactical commanders at the Command Headquarters.
According to the statement, the Police Commissioner reminded officers that their primary duty is to protect lives and property, while discharging their responsibilities with honesty, professionalism and respect for human rights.
The CP cautioned officers against demanding money under the pretext of granting bail or for any other reason, stressing that bail is free.
He also directed senior officers to closely supervise their teams to prevent actions capable of eroding public trust in the police.
He further urged officers to ensure proper planning and intelligence checks before any operation, in order to guarantee safety and effective policing.
He assured members of the public that the Command has zero tolerance for corruption, adding that any officer found guilty of misconduct would be sanctioned in accordance with the law and police regulations.
The Police Commissioner also encouraged residents to report any form of police misconduct through official channels for prompt action.
