Social media commentator and brother to a former Ekiti State governor, Isaac Fayose, has strongly criticised Nigerian Senate leaders and other top government officials over their conduct at an airport reception for the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu.

In a viral video circulating online, Fayose condemned the sight of senior lawmakers lining up on the airport tarmac to welcome Tinubu, who arrived aboard a presidential jet.

Footage from the event shows high-ranking officials waiting to receive him, despite the fact that such protocol is traditionally reserved for the President, Vice President, or visiting Heads of State.

Fayose described the display as embarrassing and a clear case of political “eye-service,” arguing that it diminishes the dignity of elected office.

He questioned why lawmakers entrusted with addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges and security concerns would engage in what he called unnecessary displays of loyalty.

According to Fayose, Seyi Tinubu holds no constitutional role that justifies such treatment.

He warned that glorifying members of the President’s family risks blurring the line between democracy and monarchy, adding that such behaviour reflects why the country continues to struggle.

He further contrasted the enthusiasm shown at the airport with what he described as the slow pace of legislative action on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.

The incident has sparked widespread debate about the abuse of protocol and misplaced priorities in governance.

Reactions to the video have been mixed on social media, with many Nigerians supporting Fayose’s criticism, while others defended the officials involved.
