A lady has expressed frustration online after being stopped by police during a journey, who allegedly demanded a “CMR” document, a requirement she claims she had never encountered before.
According to her, neither on the way to Lagos nor on the return journey was she ever asked to present such a document.
Travellers confused as Lagos lolice introduce “CMR” checks
In a social media post, she questioned the sudden emergence of the CMR demand, describing it as a new method being used by some officers to extort money from unsuspecting motorists.
The woman shared her disbelief and concern, emphasising that the situation was unexpected and unnecessary.
“we drove this car to Lagos. Nobody asked for CMR. Going and coming nobody as for CMR. What is CMR? Now, lagos police asking for CMR. What is CMR? CMR? Where did that one come out.”
Online outcry over alleged roadside extortion by officers
She lamented the lack of clarity and consistency in the enforcement, noting that travellers like herself are often left confused and vulnerable to unofficial demands.
Her account highlights growing concerns about transparency, accountability, and the conduct of law enforcement officials on Nigerian roads.
The post has since gained traction online, with many users expressing solidarity, sharing similar experiences, and calling for proper regulation to prevent extortion and harassment of drivers and passengers across the country.
