The Abia State Police Command has maintained its earlier position that no bomb or other explosive was found in United Evangelical Church, Ehere/Umuola , Ogbo Hill Aba.
The Abia State Police Command stated this on Wednesday in a reaction to the claims by Associate Pastor Eleazer Onyenweaku where the cleric accused the Police of making false statement about the incident.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of Abia Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka said that Associate Pastor Onyenweaku is not a trained specialist in bomb detection and can not educate the public about explosive devices.
The statement read in part:
“However, the Command maintains its position on the incident as earlier reported.
“The Associate Pastor is not an expert or a trained specialist in bomb detection to educate the public on what constitutes a bomb or explosive device.”
According to DSP Chinaka, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ogbor Hill was proactive leveraged on actionable intelligence by visiting Ehere/Umuola, Ogbor Hill, Aba where on arrival , arrival met one Mr. Ezumini, who introduced himself as a member of the United Evangelical Church and narrated how an iron rod was removed by the military.
“The DPO conducted a thorough search in the area, and nothing related to any bomb or explosive was found.
The Area Commander in company of the Explosive Ordin Igbo group launches ballot revolution campaign for effective political Participationance Department personnel arrived moments later, inspected the vicinity and also found nothing, even as it noted that the Church was yet to formally notify the Command of any alleged recovery.
She further said that officers from the Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) Abia State Police Command were immediately deployed to comb the area to guarantee the safety of life and property of the residents
The police encouraged the members of the public to go about their lawful activities and to report suspected incidents to the nearest Police station.
