Alanis Morissette is taking another former manager to court.
The scathing lawsuit claims Keren Urinov threatened to report Morissette to British authorities unless the singer agreed to employ her for 15 years. The singer is ultimately accusing the ex-tour manager of orchestrating a calculated blackmail campaign.
Alanis Morissette’s latest legal fight comes years after former business manager Jonathan Schwartz admitted to stealing millions from her accounts. Schwartz was ultimately sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud and falsifying federal tax returns.
Morissette temporarily hired Keren Urin to manage one of her tours in 2025. The singer’s lawsuit claims trouble began that July when her team was preparing to fly from Farnborough Airport in the United Kingdom to Spain. A British Border Force officer reportedly flagged one of the bags for further inspection.
The Grammy-winning singer alleges that Urin initially told Border Force officials that the luggage belonged to her. The bag was reportedly seized after authorities found marijuana and xylazine inside it, leading to Urin’s arrest. During questioning, Urin allegedly maintained that the bag and its contents were hers.
Urin reportedly presented an Israeli license for medical marijuana and was released afterward. Morissette claims the bag was returned, while Urin subsequently rejoined the tour before the entire crew returned to the United Kingdom. The singer says Urin was detained again after their arrival for further questioning about the contents.
Morissette claims the former manager later told her that the alleged drugs were hers. Months after the tour ended, the singer says she began receiving what she described as “extortionate letters” from Urin and her attorney. The letters allegedly contained threats unless Morissette told British authorities that the reported drugs belonged to her, per US Magazine.
The Singer Called Her Ex-Manager An ‘Incompetent Blackmailer’
According to the filing, Urin wanted Morissette to hire her under a fixed-term, full-time employment contract lasting 15 years. She also allegedly demanded that Morissette arrange for an immigration attorney to help her secure a United States work visa. The singer claims Urin wanted additional compensation if the visa could not be obtained.
The songwriter refused those demands, describing them as “brazen” in the legal documents. She also made clear that she did not want Urin back on her team even without the alleged threats.
The singer claimed she had no interest in working with Urin for another 15 years because she considered her a “terrible manager.” She further described Urin in the filing as an “incompetent blackmailer.”
Morissette acknowledged that suing could expose her to attacks on her character. She argued that she had no choice because she would not pay what she characterized as a ransom under pressure. She is seeking more than $75,000 in compensatory damages, along with an additional punitive award.

Alanis Morissette Is Not New To Legal Cases With Her Manager
A separate legal battle involving Morissette dates to 2016, when she sued her former business manager Jonathan Schwartz and his company, GSO Business Management.
Courthouse News reported that Morissette accused Schwartz of taking almost $4.7 million from her accounts. She filed claims including breach of fiduciary duty, conversion, fraud and negligence while seeking $15 million.
The award-winning singer alleged that the money was removed through 116 cash transfers over four years. The transfers reportedly occurred between January 1, 2010, and January 31, 2014, while Schwartz managed her finances. The singer said her new manager, Howard Grossman, uncovered the alleged fraud after reviewing financial records Schwartz delivered in 26 boxes.
According to the lawsuit, Schwartz initially claimed the cash was being kept because Morissette regularly needed large amounts of money. Schwartz allegedly later changed his explanation and claimed the money had been used for illegal marijuana cultivation investments.
Morissette also claimed he convinced her she was financially secure while allegedly draining her assets and encouraging her to reject a major payday for five Las Vegas shows. Courthouse News revealed that GSO later sued Schwartz to remove him from the firm, alleging he had been sustaining a lavish lifestyle, including a $50,000 Bora Bora vacation.
Morissette’s Former Manager Paid The Ultimate Price
Morissette’s previous manager scandal eventually resulted in criminal consequences for Schwartz. In 2017, Schwartz was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting he stole $5 million from Morissette and $2 million from five other unnamed clients. He had pleaded guilty to wire fraud and falsifying federal tax returns earlier that year.
The 52-year-old singer told the court that Schwartz had taken more than money from her. She said he “not only stole $5m in cash from me, but he also stole a dream.” She also told the court that her ability to trust had been “shaken to the core.” The singer recalled confronting Schwartz about her finances and said he would burst into tears during those conversations.
Morissette also said he blamed her spending habits and claimed she bought houses and built recording studios against his advice. Schwartz later acknowledged his own gambling addiction and said he turned to drugs while dealing with the stress of his work.
BBC News reported that he admitted he initially “borrowed” money from clients, hoping to replace it after winning bets. Judge Dolly Gee ultimately imposed a harsher sentence than the 63-month term prosecutors requested, saying Schwartz was motivated by greed and a desire to live beyond his means.

In 2007, Morissette separated from Ryan Reynolds, ending their three-year engagement. The singer reflected on a 2008 interview with Howard Stern, which resurfaced years later. Morissette previously revealed that she attended therapy five times a week while dealing with the emotional aftermath.
When Stern said the therapy came after her split with Reynolds, she pushed back. She insisted that therapy was about her rather than the man she had been engaged to. Morissette said, “It just became normalized to hurt women every day, call her a b-tch, tell her she’s a sl-t.”
The “Ironic” singer has since described finding a different kind of love with rapper Souleye, whom she married in 2010. The couple shares three children, and Morissette has said he immediately accepted her without trying to diminish her personality. “He had zero desire to clip my wings,” she said, as shared by The Blast.
