A source told OK Magazine that Prince Harry and Markle’s home in an exclusive Montecito neighborhood remains vulnerable to wildfires, flooding, and mudslides. The concern prompted the Montecito Fire Department and Montecito Water District to create two temporary firefighter housing locations during times of elevated danger.
“Wildfire is something people in Montecito have learned they cannot afford to become complacent about. Harry and Meghan may now be living in Britain, but their property remains in an area where conditions can change rapidly. The additional firefighter presence is about reducing response times if vegetation catches fire, particularly in harder-to-reach locations,” the source shared.

Another insider said safety concerns on the West Coast don’t end when the traditional wildfire season ends in early fall, adding that “heavy rainfall” can create flooding and debris flow. “Residents are very aware of Montecito’s history and why preparations have to happen before an emergency develops,” the source added.
The Montecito Fire Chief, Brian Fallon, also spoke about the threat to residents and said that adding more first responders to the location helps “reduce the time it takes to arrive on scene” and possibly stop a disaster.
