Jimoh Olasunkanmi, the former Managing Director of the Warri Refinery has been quizzed and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged $657 million fraud.
His arrest follows ongoing investigations into the disbursement of funds for the turnaround maintenance of Nigeria’s major refineries, which authorities say were marred by widespread corruption, diversion of public funds, and abuse of office.
EFCC sources revealed that Olasunkanmi is being questioned in connection with the mismanagement of $656,963,938, earmarked specifically for the Warri facility.
His arrest comes amid a wider crackdown on former executives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and refinery heads implicated in the multi-billion-dollar scandal.
Inside sources say several other top officials, including former managing directors of the Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries, are also under scrutiny as part of efforts to recover looted funds and ensure accountability in Nigeria’s oil sector.
“The former Managing Director of the Warri Refinery, Jimoh Olasunkanmi, is currently in our custody alongside the former NNPCL chief financial officer, Umar Ajiya Isa,” the source confirmed.
As of press time, efforts to reach EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale for an official statement were unsuccessful.
