Former special adviser on media to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina, has revealed that the late Nigerian leader had a strong sense that his time was drawing to a close.

In an emotional tribute published on Thursday, Adesina recounted some of the private conversations he had with Buhari before his death.

“Buhari once said to me: ‘I look forward to leaving. And when it’s time, I go to my grave,’” Adesina wrote on Facebook.

According to him, Buhari’s calm demeanour in the face of mortality reflected the same stoicism with which he led Nigeria, unflinching, measured, and focused.

“He knew the end was near, but he remained at peace, trusting fully in God and leaving behind a legacy of integrity and service,” Adesina added.

Buhari died earlier this week, and tributes have continued to pour in from across the country and beyond.
