Meet the Villagers Who Have Lived with Snakes for 50 Years

In Ghana’s Afadjato South District, there is a unique community known as Snakes Village, where humans and snakes coexist in harmony.

In a documentary by YouTuber Scanty Explores, the village is described as a place where snakes freely live among people, and daily activities are carried out with these reptiles present.

One of the villagers, Gado Safiu, shared his deep love for snakes, explaining: “My people loves snakes because snakes are not dangerous, they are not wicked, they are not bad if you learn about them know their life, hoe to handle them friendly bewtwen snakes and human beings they are not dangerous”

Interestingly, the village also has a “Snake Girl”, Sakinatu Zimmaziwo, and a “Snake Boy”, Maleek Zimmaziwo, who are known for their special bond with the reptiles.

Gado further emphasized that snakes play an important role in the community, stating: “Snakes are Poisonous friendly, wild not dangerous, not wicked, not bite, if you see snake in your room or your kitchen, Snake is trying to save your life”

His love for snakes is so strong that he prefers them over humans. He even keeps snakes in his home and releases them into different rooms if mice become a problem.

“I have snakes in my room, sometimes if mouse start disturbing me in other rooms, i will share them in the rooms “Because of the mouse, snake is there because of the rat or grass cutters are destroying your crops in the farms that is when snake becomes your watchman in your farm, that is why snake become your watchman in your room or your kitchen “Leave snakes, learn their life”

Beyond their role in pest control, Gado also highlighted the medicinal benefits of snakes, explaining that their skin can be used in herbal medicine to help pregnant women struggling to give birth.

He added: “You can add herbs to this snake skin to prepare medicine for human beings or pregnant woman that cannot give birth easily”

When asked how long it took her to master handling snakes, the “Mother of Snakes” in the village explained: “You can use 6months to master it”
