Senator Bernie Sanders has condemned the Trump administration’s arrest of Judge Hannah Dugan of the Milwaukee County Court in Wisconsin.

The FBI accused Dugan of intentionally misdirecting federal agents away from her courthouse, allowing Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an illegal alien, to evade arrest.

In his statement, Sanders declared that the arrest of Judge Dugan in Milwaukee “has nothing to do with immigration.”

The lawmaker accused President Donald Trump of moving the United States “toward authoritarianism,” and “illegally usurping Congressional powers.”

Sanders said the president is suing media organisations that he dislikes and attacking universities whose policies he disagrees with.

The ranking Democrat also criticised Trump for “intimidating” major law firms who have opposed him, and “threatening” to impeach judges who rule against him.

The president, according to Sanders, is still ignoring a 9-0 Supreme Court decision to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia back from El Salvador.

“Trump’s latest attack on the judiciary and Judge Dugan is about one thing – unchecked power,” he added. “He will attack and undermine any institution that stands in his way.”

Sanders said Trump continues to demonstrate that he does not believe in the Constitution, the separation of powers, or the rule of law, and wants more power for himself.

The lawmaker advised his colleagues in the Republican Party who believe in the Constitution to stand up to his growing authoritarianism.
