- In a December 2024 interview, Timaya recounted a studio session where a confident Burna Boy predicted he would be paid to board private jets.
Award-winning Nigerian singer Omawunmi Megbele, popularly known as Omawunmi, has publicly addressed a claim made by her longtime friend and fellow artist Timaya (Inetimi Alfred Odon), describing it as false and hurtful.
The controversy stems from a December 2024 interview where Timaya recounted a past studio session involving Burna Boy, Omawunmi, and fellow singer Waje. In the interview, Timaya alleged that Burna Boy, then an up-and-coming artist, had boldly declared that he would one day fly private jets for shows. According to Timaya, Omawunmi and Waje doubted him, prompting Burna Boy to angrily ask them to leave the studio.
But Omawunmi says that version of events is simply untrue.
Speaking in a recent interview on Naija FM, Omawunmi clarified that Burna Boy never asked her or Waje to leave the studio. She explained that she was present during a session in which Burna invited Waje for a collaboration, but left of her own accord to attend another engagement.
“I wasn’t asked to leave, and neither was Waje,” Omawunmi said. “I left on my own because I had something else to do.”
Omawunmi also expressed disappointment that Timaya never contacted her privately before going public with the story especially given their long-standing friendship.
Her comments have sparked renewed conversation online about the importance of truth and mutual respect in the entertainment industry.
