In other news…. teran entertainer Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has responded to the Lagos State Government’s recent decision to rename the well-known Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga after rapper Olamide Adedeji, also known as Olamide Baddo.

In a brief comment to GistLover on Saturday regarding the development, Charly Boy said, “Na dem sabi,” implying a dismissive or indifferent stance toward the renaming.

The renaming came as part of several road and landmark changes announced during the inauguration of newly completed projects in the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Friday.

Outgoing LCDA chairman, Hon. Kolade David Alabi, confirmed that these renamings were part of his final initiatives in office, aimed at honouring prominent Nigerians particularly those from the music and sports industries.

Below are some of the key road name changes:

  • Ilaje Road has been renamed King Sunny Ade Road, celebrating the Juju music icon.
  • Bariga Road is now Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, in tribute to the current President and former Lagos Governor.
  • Community Road in Akoka has been changed to Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road, after the sitting Lagos State Governor.
  • Ajidagan Street is now Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street, named after the popular rapper.
  • Ifeanyi Street becomes Abolore Akande (9ice) Street, in honour of singer 9ice.
  • Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak has been renamed Tony Tetuila Street, after the veteran Afro-pop artist.
  • Ilojo Crescent in Obanikoro now bears the name Bukayo Saka Street, recognising the English football star of Nigerian origin.

The renaming exercise has stirred conversations online, particularly due to the replacement of Charly Boy’s name with that of Olamide, a local hero in Bariga.

See some comments below:

@Ola, a user on X:; “If the person behind this decision were truly born and raised in Bariga, they would know that the bus stop is actually known as Second Pedro Bus Stop not Charly Boy Bus Stop. This is a clear example of how political bitterness can distort historical and communal facts.”

@AKIN OMO AKIN:, “Nobody named it Charlyboy bus stop in the first place, Charlyboy named it after himself without any authorization from the local government.”

@OG Beeperl:, “Baddo is kuku greater than Charly wayray and his entire generation anyway.”
