Nine people from Dambatta Local Government Area of Kano State have died in a car crash along the Katsina-Kano highway on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
The victims were returning from a wedding in Katsina State when the accident happened. Basiru Lawan, a resident of Dambatta, said four of those who died were believed to be from the same family.
While authorities have not yet released official details, eyewitnesses described the crash as severe.
The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, responded to the incident in a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
“It is with profound sorrow that I offer my deepest condolences to the families and the entire community of Dambatta on the tragic loss of six young lives,” the governor said.
“The news of the car accident, claiming these boys on their way back from Katsina, has brought immense grief to us all,” the statement added.
The governor also offered prayers for the deceased and their families.
Fatal crashes remain common on Nigerian roads, with many blamed on reckless driving and poor road conditions. In recent months, similar accidents have killed travellers across different parts of the country.
