Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a group of political “mafias” bent on destabilising Nigeria.

Speaking on Saturday at the 50th anniversary and 35th convocation of the University of Port Harcourt, where he was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree in political science, Wike dismissed the opposition movement as a gathering of disgruntled politicians with no real solutions.

“They have been in government for most of their lives and have nothing to show. Now, instead of helping rebuild a broken system, they want to destroy it,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor accused the coalition of seeking political relevance by riding on the frustrations of Nigerians.

He urged citizens to reject their “drumbeats of division and propaganda.”

According to Wike, President Bola Tinubu inherited a deeply battered economy and has taken tough but necessary decisions to revive the country.

“Painful as these decisions may be now, joy is coming,” he said, defending the current administration’s policies.
