The United States of America Government on Monday, July 28, issued a fresh advisory to Nigerians on tourist visas.

In a post made on X, the US Mission in Nigeria said it will deny visas to tourists using their travel visa to give birth in the United States.

Some parents on tourist visa travel to the US to give birth to their children in America.

With this move, these parents usually give birth to children who automatically become US citizens.

However, in this new advisory, the US Mission said its consular officers will deny visas to applicants to give birth to their babies in the country.

It said, “Using your visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States so that your child will have U.S. citizenship is not permitted.

“Consular officers will deny your visa application if they have reason to believe this is your intent,” the US government said.

Similarly, an e-flyer titled, ‘Birth Tourism’ which accompanied the post, said, “We will deny your visa if we believe your primary purpose of travel is to give birth in the United States to get US citizenship for your child. This is not permitted.”
