Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation has described the appointment of Nentawe Yilwatda as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress as mere cosmetics.

Lawal while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday said the president appointed a Christian as the party’s national chairman as a decoy.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu is still tilting towards a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2027 presidential election.

He said, “These are all cosmetic things. I was the one who opposed the Muslim-Muslim ticket. When I see the appointment of a Christian APC chairman, I know Bola is preparing for another Muslim-Muslim ticket.“

He further added that President Bola Tinubu’s appointments to key positions of office are politically calculated to divide the electorate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Adding that the president has “alienated” the Muslims who voted for him in the last election, Lawal said Tinubu has also succeeded in embarrassing and leaving the region undeveloped.

Speaking further, he noted that the Northern Political Consultative Group, is working with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), of which he is a member; the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) and other northern groups to oust the president and the APC in the 2027 polls.

“I am a member of the Arewa Consultative Forum. We also work with the Northern Elders Forum and others. We are all complementing each other. There is no other way you can get power if you don’t align with a given political party,” Lawal stated.
