The Kano State House of Assembly has called for either the revocation or a full upgrade of the five-kilometer road construction project in Gabasawa Local Government Area.

The decision followed the adoption of a report presented by the House Standing Committee on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, which investigated the recent flood disaster in Zakirai, a town in Gabasawa.

Presenting the report, the Committee Chairman, Alhaji Sule Lawan Shuwaki, said the contractor handling the road must be compelled to expand the drainage system in Zakirai to prevent further flooding.

In a separate motion, the Assembly called on the government to reconstruct the deteriorated road linking Kwanar ‘Yan Mota, Kwanar Bakin Zuwo, Jakara, and Kwanar Gabari in Kano Municipal Local Government.

The motion was sponsored by Hon. Aliyu Yusuf Daneji, who said the section around Kasuwar Kurmi market is in terrible shape and is disrupting daily activities.

Also during plenary, Hon. Abdullahi Yahaya of Gezawa Constituency moved a motion for the construction of a tarred road from Jogana to Matallawa, Yamadi Charo, and Daraudau.

He explained that the road becomes nearly unusable during the rainy season, and residents have resorted to filling potholes with sand and wood to make it passable.
