President Bola Tinubu on Thursday emphasised that his administration is cultivating a digital workforce poised to propel Nigeria’s next phase of economic growth.

Speaking at the 3MTT National Impact Summit at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, he described the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme as a cornerstone of the Renewed Hope Agenda and a pathway towards a trillion-dollar economy anchored on productivity and innovation.

Tinubu was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

“Together, we are laying the foundation for a digital workforce that will power Nigeria’s next chapter of growth and shared prosperity,” he said.

The President stressed that Nigeria’s most valuable resource is not oil or minerals, but the creativity, determination and potential of its people. He argued that countries that lead globally are those that invest intentionally in the skills of their young population.

Highlighting the transformative role of digital skills, Tinubu noted that they underpin growth across agriculture, healthcare, finance, manufacturing, education, and the public service, positioning Nigeria not merely as a consumer of technology, but as a creator that can export talent and solutions worldwide.

Since its inception, the 3MTT programme has reportedly drawn over 1.8 million applications from across all local governments, with participants creating jobs, forming start-ups, and developing digital solutions nationwide, ensuring opportunities extend beyond major cities.

Tinubu commended the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy for driving the initiative and acknowledged the support of private-sector and development partners, including IHS Towers, MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Google, Microsoft, Huawei, Moniepoint, UNDP, and the European Union.

While celebrating the programme’s achievements, the President stressed the importance of scale and continuity, adding: “From inception, 3MTT was designed to scale and to drive sustained transformation of digital and technical skills across the country.” He underscored the need for continued collaboration among government, industry, and development partners.

Tinubu assured young Nigerians that initiatives like 3MTT are genuine platforms for progress, stating: “The Nigeria we seek must be powered by skilled hands, guided by innovative thinking, and driven by a generation ready to work, create and lead.”

Launched in 2023, 3MTT aims to train and place three million Nigerians in market-ready technology roles across multiple cohorts.

The programme offers structured tracks in software engineering, data science, product management, UI/UX design, cloud computing, cybersecurity, AI/ML, DevOps, game development, IoT, and related fields, combining online and in-person learning with internship and job placement opportunities.
