Wike says APC poll victories reflect rising confidence in Tinubu’s policies

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently concluded FCT Area Council elections and the Rivers State by-election demonstrates growing public confidence in the policies and programmes of Bola Tinubu.

Wike made the remarks on Sunday while reacting to the outcome of the polls, in which the APC recorded notable victories across several councils.

According to the minister, the party’s strong showing, particularly in remote and hinterland communities within the FCT, indicates that the Federal Government’s initiatives are beginning to make tangible impacts at the grassroots level.

He noted that the election marked what he described as a historic breakthrough for the APC in some rural areas. “This is the first time the APC is winning councillorship seats in certain hinterland communities, alongside an overwhelming majority in local council chairmanship positions,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor argued that the results reflected a shift in voter sentiment and reinforced support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. He suggested that the victories were not merely partisan wins but evidence of broader public endorsement of the administration’s direction.

Wike also commented on the outcome of the Rivers State by-election, describing the APC’s performance as a triumph for what he termed a “rainbow coalition” of political stakeholders. He explained that the alliance signified an emerging cross-party alignment in support of the President’s reform programme.

According to him, the collaboration among diverse political actors in Rivers State highlights evolving political dynamics ahead of future electoral contests. He maintained that such cooperation demonstrates a willingness among leaders to prioritise governance objectives over traditional party divisions.

The minister’s remarks come amid ongoing debate over the implications of the by-election results, with supporters portraying them as validation of the administration’s policies, while critics have questioned aspects of the electoral process.

Wike, however, insisted that the outcomes in both the FCT and Rivers State show increasing public trust in the APC’s governance record and its commitment to delivering development at both the national and grassroots levels.
