The Nigeria Police, NPF, Ebonyi Command, has cautioned its officers and men to be mindful of their conduct on social media platforms, noting that the Force Social Media Policy remains in force.
Mr Hope Okafor, the State Commissioner of Police, gave the advice at a meeting with personnel of the command on Tuesday.
Okafor explained that the meeting followed the recent conference between the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Tunji Disu and the Force Management Team.
She reminded the officers that the Presidential directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP duties was still subsisting and must be strictly adhered to.
The Commissioner reiterated the IGP’s charge to build a police force that was transparent, accountable and people-oriented.
She directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure that their contact numbers were displayed conspicuously within their respective divisions and area commands to enhance accessibility and public confidence.
Okafor further instructed them to maintain regular engagement with members of the public and consistently lecture their subordinates on the importance of civility and professionalism in their interactions with citizens.
The CP also emphasised the need for officers to wear their uniforms with dignity and ensure that their names and identification details were properly displayed at all times.
“In this regard, I direct the Assistant Commissioner of Police, X-Squad, to intensify the monitoring of officers across the command and ensure that defaulters are appropriately sanctioned.
“I will also remind you that the Force Social Media Policy remains in force. Be mindful of your conduct on social media platforms.
“To you, Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders, let me remind you that the election season is around the corner.
“You must strengthen intelligence gathering within your Areas of Responsibility (AORs). You should also sustain continuous raids on identified black spots and criminal hideouts to enhance security across the state,” the Commissioner advised.
