Kwara CP warns officers against misconduct

Kwara State Police Commissioner, Ojo Adekimi, on Tuesday strongly warned officers of the command against indiscipline, impunity, and any form of misconduct or face appropriate sanctions.

He harped on misconduct and unprofessional behaviour by officers and ordered strict compliance with the directives of the country’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

‎Speaking during a strategic briefing with Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders, and other senior officers, the Commissioner asserted that “the era of impunity is over, as every officer must conduct himself or herself in a manner that upholds the integrity, discipline, and professionalism expected of members of the Force.”

‎The CP cautioned officers to be mindful of their actions, utterances, and general conduct while carrying out their official duties.

Ojo further noted that, in an age of widespread digital technology and social media, officers are constantly under public scrutiny and risk being recorded while engaging in acts unbecoming of police personnel.

He warned that “any officer captured engaging in misconduct, incivility, abuse of authority, extortion, harassment, or any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute will face stringent disciplinary action in accordance with established police regulations.”

‎The commissioner also delivered a comprehensive lecture on the Force’s Social Media Policy, reminding officers that careless online conduct, unauthorized dissemination of official information, and activities capable of undermining operational security or the image of the Force will attract appropriate sanctions.

‎As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community-based policing and enhance public safety, the commissioner directed all Divisional Police Officers to intensify engagement with religious leaders, school proprietors, principals, and other critical stakeholders within their Areas of Responsibility (AORs).

He stressed the need for sustained collaboration with the police in protecting places of worship, educational institutions, and other vulnerable public spaces against emerging security threats.

‎The CP reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, intelligence-led policing, and community partnership, assuring the good people of Kwara State that the command remains resolute in ensuring effective service delivery, protection of lives and property, and the enforcement of discipline among its personnel.
