“My acting career was an accident” – Nkem Owoh opens up on his journey to fame

Famous Nollywood comic actor Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, has revealed that his journey into acting was never planned, describing it as an “accident.”

Speaking during a recent podcast on, the veteran actor said he originally wanted to work behind the scenes as a scriptwriter, but people around him noticed his natural comedy talent and encouraged him to appear on screen.

“My coming in front of the camera was an accident. I was a scriptwriter behind the scenes and people started telling me to start performing in front of the camera,” he explained.

Osuofia explained that his breakthrough came after he was given a short comedy segment, which eventually led to a full transition into acting as audiences began to enjoy his performances.

“They created a 7-minute programme for me to do stand-up comedy in the 80s. I came in front of the camera and saw that what I was doing, people were buying it, and that was how my acting career began,” he added.

He noted that continuous encouragement from colleagues who believed he was funnier on screen helped shape his career path.

The actor further reflected on fame, saying it comes with limitations and takes away personal freedom, even though many people only see the glamorous side of celebrity life.
