Legendary ‘Rocky Horror’ Star Tim Curry Dies at 80 Following Years of Health Struggles

Hollywood is mourning the loss of legendary actor Tim Curry, who died at 80. The British-born actor’s decades-long career consists of more than 200 roles, including the iconic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Clue,” “Muppet Treasure Island,” and “Congo.” His death followed a 2012 stroke that left lasting impacts on his life.

TMZ first reported the news of Curry’s passing, confirming that he’d died on the night of August 25. Following the initial report, PEOPLE spoke with an LAPD representative, who said police officers responded to a call at a North Hollywood residence at about 11:20 PM.

From there, the officers on the scene completed a death investigation for a man who was in his 80s. There is no foul play suspected in the actor’s death.

The ‘Rocky Horror’ Star Suffered A Massive Stroke In 2012

Curry suffered a massive stroke on July 13, 2012, when he was 66 years old. After that, he opened up about the ordeal in a CBS News interview, revealing he had to be encouraged to call for help during the medical emergency.

According to him, “It was so strange. I was actually having a massage, and the guy who was giving me a massage said, ‘I’m worried about you. I think we should call a doctor.’ I felt fine. I had no symptoms that I was aware of. I wasn’t in pain.”

It wasn’t until after Curry arrived at the hospital that he learned he’d suffered a stroke. He added, “I thought immediately of my dad. So, I was scared.” The stroke led Curry to undergo invasive brain surgery as well as rehabilitation in order to regain his speech.

He reflected on that time, saying, “That was very weird. I hated not being able to speak.” Curry also experienced facial paralysis.
