WNBA star and Los Angeles Sparks center Cameron Brink isn’t backing down against former NBA player Enes Kanter. In a new interview, the former Stanford player slammed Kanter, who recently made headlines after being removed from a Chicago Sky game after a fiery interaction with Natasha Cloud. Before that, Kanter said he planned to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft after saying he was a transgender woman.

Brink, the second overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, spoke publicly about the current discussion surrounding transgender women competing in the WNBA, calling it a “non-issue” and condemning people who are using it to disrespect “the trans community.”

Brink then turned her focus onto Kanter, calling him a “stupid piece of sh-t” who’s using the WNBA’s rise in popularity to “stay relevant.”

The 24-year-old, who also won an NCAA championship in 2021, said she was excited that people are finally tuning into the WNBA for the right reasons, and she even encouraged viewers to have healthy discussions. “But I think taking something that’s a non-issue right now and trying to use it for clickbait, for views, for likes, and then targeting a vulnerable community is just really low,” she said.

The topic of transgender players competing against biological women comes after Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham spoke with ESPN about the issue and said she didn’t support it. While she said she’s “here to extend love,” she said another part of her wants to “protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

Cunningham’s comments sparked widespread backlash and started a national conversation about the topic. Despite the criticism, Cunningham said she wouldn’t back down when asked about her comments in July 2026.

“I said what I said. I think it’s kind of common sense,” she said. “And I think I’ll always believe in that. I think it’s really important to protect children, and that’s little girls who are also involved in that category. I stand on what I said.”

Enes Kanter Vowed To Declare For The WNBA Draft

After the conversation intensified, Kanter rushed to his social media platforms and vowed to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft. “If simply declaring who you are is all that’s required,” he said, “then I meet every single requirement necessary to compete in the WNBA.”

He continued, “I’m simply asking that the current rules be applied equally to everyone — the rules that represent the very values many WNBA players and coaches have publicly advocated for.”

Another retired NBA player made a similar statement, saying he identified as a “transgender woman for the purposes of professional basketball,” according to The Blast.

According to ESPN, the Chicago Sky banned Kanter from Wintrust Arena after his removal. Sky Owner Michael Alter told reporters that the former NBA player had taunted his roster all night to provoke them.

“[Enes Kanter] has demonstrated to us unequivocally that he has the potential to be a threat,” Alter said. “That he is not able to control himself to the extent where we can be comfortable that he may [not] step towards the court again and towards the players. So that is the basis for which we will not permit him into the building until such time as he can prove otherwise.”
