Raven-Symoné’s Wife Miranda Pearman-Maday Clarifies Comments About Not Watching ‘That’s So Raven’ Amid Backlash

Miranda Pearman-Maday is clearing up some misconceptions about her childhood TV habits.

Raven-Symoné’s wife got a lot of backlash a few years ago when she admitted that did not watch That’s So Raven growing up. She made the admission in 2024 on Keke Palmer’s podcast, so naturally, the conversation came back up during Keke Palmer’s recent appearance on Tea Time With Raven & Miranda.

While talking to Palmer about the admission, Pearman-Maday clarified that she was aware of Raven and her career, and she wasn’t implying she had no idea who her now-wife was when saying she didn’t watch the show.

“This is where people are getting confused,” Miranda told Keke. “Watching a show is different than knowing someone exists. I just wasn’t running home to sit down to tune in to That’s So Raven. I knew who Raven was.”

This clarification happened after Pearman-Maday revealed that a lot of the backlash she’s faced online can be traced back to her previous appearance on Palmer’s podcast. That conversation is when Palmer asked about her familiarity with That’s So Raven, which led to an answer from Miranda that some fans took as her downplaying her wife’s cultural impact.

“Did you know that the start of—I won’t say all—but a significant amount of the online hate against me started on your pod when you asked me about TSR?” Pearman-Maday asked Palmer.

Keke did have a recollection of the uproar, saying fans believed Miranda “didn’t know nothing about Raven’s Raven-ness.”

Pearman-Maday pushed back, saying she has seen the series since marrying Raven–but also did cross paths with the show at home through her younger sister.

“My sister, who’s five years younger than me, she watched it,” Pearman-Maday clarified. “So it would be in the background of my house. I just wasn’t so honed into it that I could say, ‘Oh no, I’m a diehard fan.’”

Despite what some would call an overreaction from fans, Keke understood why the admission landed badly with some fans.

“Black, white, rich, poor—everybody knows Raven,” she said, adding that viewers found it hard to believe Pearman-Maday had never tuned in. Still, she acknowledged how that whole situation became distorted online.

No matter what fans think of the admission, Raven made it clear that she never wanted her partner to be a lifelong fan.

“I have never dated someone who was a fan,” Raven added. “So, I will never marry someone who’s a fan.”

She continued, “I’m not turned on by those who fangirl out about me.”

This latest controversy comes a couple years after Symoné came to her wife’s defense over “death threats” Miranda got for not watching her iconic Disney Show.

In a video posted to TikTok on May 2, the former child star urged internet detractors to back off her wife.

“I’m here with Miranda, my wife, to tell you to stop it in the comments and stop with the death threats in her DMs,” Raven, 38, said as she donned a stern face. Maday sat beside her flashing a coarse look with her arms crossed.

“It is disrespectful to her and in turn disrespectful to me. Stop it.”
