Mixed reactions on Tuesday trailed Augustine Eguavoen’s appointment as interim coach of the Super Falcons.

Eguavoen will take charge of the Super Falcons on an interim basis for their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying fixtures against Comoros in October.

The former Super Eagles head coach will be assisted by Christopher Danjuma, Olatunji Baruwa and Ayisat Yusuf.

Reacting, some Nigerian football fans on X expressed their displeasure over Eguavoen taking charge of the team, while others criticised the Nigeria Football Federation.

Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST:

@DanielRegha: “Super Eagles, if it were to be coached by a woman, will cause serious uproar, but a man is coaching the Super Falcons. Doesn’t seem right.

“Augustine Eguavoen’s appointment as an interim head coach of the Super Falcons goes to show how this country works. Why was he appointed, and why couldn’t he (Eguavoen) simply turn down the appointment for obvious reasons? We keep recycling leaders in literally all sectors. I also expected that a woman would be in charge of the Super Falcons; there should be more than enough qualified women to occupy that position.”

@Buchi_Laba: “Does Augustine Eguavoen not have any self-respect or self-awareness? Is he not tired of being their puppet? I really don’t get it! Nonsense! His interim appointment as Super Falcons coach is a big joke. He’s always the fallback guy! A senior man o! Sorry, senior House boy! Nonsense. They don’t respect you! At least respect yourself! Nonsense.”

@Lightgang_: “This is a very lazy decision. You could tell no form of deliberateness was committed to this choice. You could just tell. Eguavoen doesn’t have any track in this arena. We understand coaching women thrives on similar tactical and technical foundations as the men’s game, but the two require distinct psychological approaches.”

@Real1_balogun: “At some point, NFF suppose dey get shame. It’s very important. Even Eguavoen suppose dey get shame too. Haba! How do you make sense of this”

@Joeliy10: “From Super Eagles to Falcon, Nothing we no see for Nigeria football.”
