Patrick Clancy is speaking publicly for the first time since his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy‘s murder trial ended in a mistrial. In his first sit-down interview Patrick opened up about the devastating moments after discovering what Lindsay had done to their three children. Amid the chaos, the grieving father, at one point, believed that there was still a chance his youngest would survive.

On September 20, Patrick Clancy sat down with “60 Minutes” Ross Douthat for his first interview about the tragic deaths of his three young children.
On January 24, 2023, Lindsay Clancy sent his husband out for an errand and strangled her three children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan, at their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home with an exercise band before attempting to end her life by jumping from a second-story window.
Patrick found his bloodied and injured wife lying on the ground and later discovered his three children unconscious in the basement. Cora and Dawson were rushed to a trauma center but were both pronounced dead later that night. Callan had a faint pulse and was airlifted to Boston Children’s Hospital where he was placed on life support.
“I didn’t have all the details of Callan’s condition. I just knew that they got a heartbeat back,” Patrick said, per CBS News.

After learning of Cora and Dawson’s deaths, Patrick headed to the hospital where Callan was.
“I remember that night, I really thought there was a chance that Callan would live. I remember just thinking, ‘Just give me one. Just give me one kid.’ And I would raise him as best I could. I would give him the best life I possibly could. I’d tell him about his brother and sister. And I was holding out hope for that,” Patrick recalled.
When he saw the doctor’s demeanor, however, he knew the outlook was grim. Physicians who treated Callan testified about the extent of the baby’s injuries at trial. He had swelling on his neck and had indications of brain damage due to the lack of oxygen. Callan remained unresponsive to touch or light and was later determined to be brain dead.

For four days, Patrick stayed by Callan’s side. “I’m so grateful for those four days that I had with him. And I’m so grateful he hung on,” he said.
When asked whether he talked to his baby, Patrick said, “I said, “I’m so sorry.” And I got to hold him. I got to lay down next to him. And he died in my arms.”
After discussions with doctors, Callan was removed from life support and was declared dead on January 27, 2023.

After his children’s death, Patrick said his life “came to a screeching halt” and shared that he had suicidal thoughts. “There was a time where I didn’t think I would live to see my 35th birthday. And I was completely fine with it,” he confessed.
Realizing that he could no longer in the same place where the tragedy occurred, Patrick moved to New York, so he could grieve and retain his anonymity amid the high-profile case. To celebrate what would have been Callan’s first birthday, he lit a candle in a cathedral and took a walk on Fifth Avenue. “I start crying my eyes out. And nobody cared,” he said, grateful that he was able to grieve openly.
Patrick keeps mementos of his children in his new home, including toys, photos, and some personal items.
Patrick Clancy Has Forgiven His Ex-Wife

Patrick has long forgiven Lindsay, saying that if he hadn’t, “I would be eaten up inside forever.” Just days after the tragedy, he issued a statement, writing, in part, “I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have,” per ABC 7 News.
In his recent interview, the grieving father said he saw the scathing headlines calling Lindsay a “killer mom” and “baby murderer” and described them as inaccurate. “I believe that it was her mental illness that caused that.”
He recalled asking Lindsay if she remembered murdering their children, and she described it as “like a dream.” “She remembered it much in the way you would remember a dream after waking up,” he said.
As for whether Lindsay asked him for forgiveness, Patrick said, “No. But I gave it to her.”
