NDLEA Nabs Man With 7,790 Tramadol, Rohypnol Pills at Lagos Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized drugs and made arrests in several states across Nigeria.

On Wednesday, July 16, NDLEA and aviation security officials at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, arrested Omoregie Nice Uyiosa, a passenger on Turkish Airlines heading to Italy via Istanbul. He was caught with 7,790 pills of tramadol and rohypnol. “He admitted to buying the drugs to sell in Europe,” said Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s spokesperson.

On Thursday, July 17, NDLEA operatives at the airport’s export shed intercepted 17 parcels of skunk weighing 1.70kg hidden inside cereal packs going to Pakistan. Chioba Robert Uchenna, who brought the cargo, was arrested.

On Saturday, July 19, NDLEA raided Sarah Sam Hotels at 115 Ogudu Road, Kosofe LGA, Lagos, which was used to distribute drugs. Officers found 1.3kg of chocolate cannabis, 900g of cannabis-laced gummies, and 22.9g of skunk. The suspect, Obayemi Oyetade, had three vehicles and drugs in his hotel room.

In Kaduna, Onyeka Madu, Monday Nwadishi, and Emmanuel Madu were arrested in Narayi High Cost area with 742.8kg of skunk and synthetic cannabis (Colorado).

Also on July 16, Lawan Rabiu was caught with 36,000 tramadol pills on the Danbatta-Kazaure road in Kano.

In Gombe, Aliyu Abubakar was arrested at Gombe roundabout on Friday, July 18, with 25,000 tablets of tramadol and Exol-5. That same day, Mohammed Adamu and Furaira Idris were caught in Kwadom, Yemaltu Deba LGA, with 49 blocks of compressed skunk weighing 29kg.

In Maiduguri, Borno State, NDLEA officers stopped a Mercedes-Benz C180 with plate number GUB 409 AA on July 19 and found 74,360 opioid pills. Audu Modu, 44, was arrested.

In Bayelsa, 63-year-old Akuna Nelson was arrested in the Osiri area of Yenagoa with 163 litres of “skuchies,” a mix of drugs and alcohol.

In Kogi, Ikechukwu Abugu, Sunday Ani, Chukwu Christian, and Emmanuel Olisakwe were arrested on the Okene-Lokoja highway with 2kg of methamphetamine. They were traveling from Onitsha to Minna.

On Monday, July 14, NDLEA officers raided the home of Nduka Obi, 39, in Aba, Abia State. They found tramadol, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and N736,000 cash.

In Enugu, Chisom Okpalaeke, 30, was caught on July 16 with 45,000 tramadol pills along the Onitsha–Enugu expressway.

In Taraba, Ngwokwoka Thomas and Mohammed Audu, both 44, were arrested in Dan Anacha, Gassol LGA, with 10,000 tramadol capsules and one gram of cannabis.
