A housewife, Rabi Nuhu, has been accused of inflicting severe burns on the body of her five-year-old stepdaughter for allegedly bedwetting in Magama Gumau, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The victim, who lost her mother a year ago, has been living with her father, Mohammed Umar, and the suspect. Reports indicate she had endured violence for several days before the abuse was exposed.

The child confided in her uncle after repeated assaults, narrating that her stepmother burned her private parts because she could not control her bedwetting. Her uncle subsequently reported the matter to the police.

Confirming the incident, Bauchi Police spokesperson CSP Mohammed Wakil said the case was reported on September 13, 2025, around 3:00 p.m.

He noted that the victim sustained burns on her lower abdomen, thighs, and buttocks.

Wakil added that the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, had ordered the suspect’s immediate arrest and directed that the case be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for thorough investigation.

This is coming barely a week after a woman allegedly used a hot knife to mutilate her 10-year-old sister-in-law over claims of witchcraft.
