INEC to suspend first phase of continuous voter registration in Benue

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Benue State has announced that the first phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise will be temporarily halted on December 10, 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Prof. Sam Egwu, who urged citizens and relevant stakeholders to take note of the schedule.

“The first phase of Continuous Voter Registration, which began on August 25, 2025, will be suspended on December 10, 2025,” Egwu confirmed.

He added that the suspension would be followed by a seven-day public display of the preliminary voters’ register at all local government offices and the INEC state office.

“Following this, the Preliminary Register of Voters will be available for claims and objections at the LGAs and state office from December 15 to December 21, 2025,” the statement noted.

INEC explained that the public display is intended to allow eligible voters to verify their registration details, submit objections where necessary, and assist in cleaning up the register before the next phase of the CVR begins.

Egwu also revealed that the second phase of Continuous Voter Registration is scheduled to start on January 5, 2026.

He encouraged political parties, civil society organisations, community leaders, and the general public to participate actively in the process and adhere to the timelines provided.

The commission reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining a transparent and credible voters’ register in preparation for upcoming elections.
