IED blast injures four in Borno community

About four persons were injured on Tuesday after a truck transporting bags of onions struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Lingir Village, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to Zagazola Makama, a security expert and counter insurgency, said the truck was travelling from Baga in Kukawa LGA to Maiduguri when it hit the explosive at about 10:30am.

“The victims were identified as the driver, 25-year-old Umar Isah, and three passengers — Suleiman Isa, 22; Ibrahim Bala, 25; and Umar Hassan, 22 — all residents of Maiduguri”, Makama posted.

“The vehicle, a Yobe-registered truck with number XA 504 GSH, was extensively damaged by the blast”.

“Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, supported by other security agencies, quickly secured the scene, conducted documentation, and searched the area for additional explosives. No other device was discovered”.

Makama added that injured individuals were first taken to the General Hospital in Monguno before being referred to the State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, where they are currently receiving treatment and are said to be responding well.

Security sources suspect the device was planted by ISWAP terrorists.
