Prince Harry and Meghan‘s quest to come out of royal retirement and reunite with the British monarchy seemingly hinges on a “test” posed by King Charles, a royal expert claims.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be done with the American dream, and their July meeting with Charles was reportedly a step in the right direction.
Other members of the royal family are reportedly not so keen on Harry and Meghan’s return, with William and Kate said to have held “crisis talks” following their UK trip.
Over the last couple of years, tensions have remained high between Harry and Meghan and members of the royal family following their decision to abandon their royal duties and relocate abroad.
Relations further soured with the damaging accusations they made against the Firm in the Oprah Winfrey interview, Harry’s memoir, Spare, as well as other media appearances.
However, the Montecito-based royals are understood to be fed up with life in America and have started feeling unwelcome in the country.
“England is where Harry’s heart has always lain. It is no secret that they went to the States to try and seek their fortune, to try to capitalize on his fame and his royalty to some degree,” a source said, per Woman And Home.

4They’re now looking to reconnect with Harry’s English side and would be using their holiday home in Portugal as an operational base.
Reports suggest they ultimately “plan to reverse Megxit,” which would see them reunite with the royal family and possibly pick up a royal role.
It is believed that their alleged financial troubles, largely caused by their expensive Californian lifestyle, the end of their multi-million-dollar deals with Spotify and Netflix, as well as Harry’s inability to generate enough income from his few speaking engagements and book sales, have largely contributed to their desire to return to the UK.
The insider added, “They have had successes. A $100 million Netflix deal is not nothing… But that American dream is cooling and she perhaps feels an outcast status as well.”

4However, for them to attain such lofty dreams, royal expert Emily Andrews told the news outlet that they must pass a “test” King Charles seems to have set for them.
Last month, Harry traveled to the UK for a series of charitable engagements and was later joined by his wife and kids, Archie and Lilibet. Buckingham Palace confirmed that all four of them had a private meeting with Charles and Camilla at Highgrove House, Harry’s childhood home.
Details about the issues discussed or photos from the family reunion have not made it into the public domain, and it’s believed that was Charles’ request, with reports suggesting he was “adamant” that things be “kept private,” per Vanity Fair.
Andrews notes that if anything leaks out, trust between both parties will be broken again and could negatively impact how things move forward.
Harry’s ‘Part-Time Royal’ Plan Could Still Become Reality
4Harry and Meghan have long favored a “half-in, half-out” arrangement that would allow them to hold on to a royal role within the Firm while maintaining an independent life outside of it.
Queen Elizabeth firmly rejected the proposal during the January 2020 Sandringham Summit, ruling that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could not combine official royal duties with independent, income-generating commercial ventures, establishing an “all-in or all-out” policy, per PEOPLE.
However, royal author Simon Vigar suggested that the idea may not be completely dead, and should things between Harry and his father continue the way they’ve been going, a similar model could be inevitable.
“Harry did think that there was a hybrid version that they could do,” he told Fox News Digital. “And I think in years to come, there will be a hybrid version. I think he’s right. There has to be a hybrid version of this where people don’t get accused of cashing in but can support their cousins or their brother or whatever.”
“[The Sussexes] thought they could have a hybrid role of having a business life and a private life, while also spending a few months in the U.K. supporting the queen,” Vigar added. “Harry believed that was an option, which was whipped away from him.”

4The way things are going between Harry and Charles is said to have left William “wary,” as the Prince of Wales doesn’t trust his younger brother.
Andrews claims the future King and his wife, Kate Middleton, have had “crisis talks” since Harry’s trip to the UK last month. Reports also suggest they’re not so keen on mending strained ties with their American counterparts.
The Duke will return to the UK next month for a charity engagement and will reportedly be offered a place to stay at Buckingham Palace, further compounding William’s worry.
“King Charles, from all indications and all feedback from courtiers, obviously wants to maintain an open dialogue and ongoing relationship with his ‘dear boy,’” royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital.
“Prince William, meanwhile, remains wary and won’t want Harry at the palace. However, it’s better that Harry stays at Buckingham Palace than in Windsor, which is too close to William and his family.”
