A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Dan Ulasi, has suggested that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, currently has no political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ulasi spoke on Friday while fielding questions on Arise Television’s Morning Show.
The PDP chieftain noted that while the Nigerian Constitution grants every citizen the right to contest elections, Obi’s political future remains uncertain as he has not clearly aligned with any party.
He recalled that Obi ran on the platform of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections and was recently seen at an African Democratic Congress, ADC, event, but has yet to define his political base for 2027.
The PDP stalwart, however, expressed optimism that Obi could bring value if he returned to the PDP, arguing that Obi’s credibility and nationwide support would boost any party’s chances in the next general election.
He said: “In terms of the presidency for 2027, I believe Peter Obi so far has no platform.
“To the best of my knowledge, he ran last time with Labor Party. He’s attended the luncheon of what do they call it ADC. So I don’t know what his platform will be.
“I’ll be happy if he joins PDP, because he will bring his credibility to bear on the party as we are reorganizing.
“I mean, he’s not a name you want to introduce in Nigerian politics, any party that has him today, we know that they have already made more than 30, 40% of the election because he has tremendous support across this country”.
