Gov Nwifuru orders full probe into deadly attack on Ebonyi community

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has directed security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the recent attack on Oso Edda community in Edda Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Nwifuru described the attack, which claimed lives and led to the destruction of property, as barbaric and a flagrant disregard for the sanctity of human life.

“I received with rude shock the news of the recent attack on Oso Edda which claimed lives and resulted in the destruction of property.

“This act of callousness is a direct affront to our commitment to restoring peace in our communities, and we cannot tolerate it,” the Governor warned.

He stressed that the protection of lives and property remains the top priority of his administration, assuring that no effort would be spared in getting to the root of the matter.

“As a government, the security of the lives and property of our people is of utmost importance, and we will leave no stone unturned to ensure justice is served,” he said.

The Governor disclosed that his administration is working closely with law enforcement agencies to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice, while appealing to residents of the affected community to remain calm and avoid reprisals.

He further directed security operatives to swiftly mobilize to the area to prevent further attacks and forestall any form of retaliation.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones and property in this unfortunate incident.

“Be rest assured that they will not be left alone,” the Governor added.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by his Chief press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor and made available to journalists in Abakaliki.

The Governor also called on communities across the state to embrace peace, noting that meaningful development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of violence and destruction.
