A 15-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder following the stabbing of a teenage girl at a school near Norwich, police have confirmed.

Officers from Norfolk Constabulary were called to Thorpe St Andrew School at around 10.24am on Wednesday after reports that a student had been stabbed on the premises.

Emergency services attended the scene and the girl was taken for medical treatment. Police have not released details about her condition.

The suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons because he is under 18, was arrested shortly after the incident and taken into custody for questioning.

Following an investigation, the teenager has now been charged with attempted murder as well as possession of a knife on school premises.

Police said the boy is due to appear before Norwich Youth Court on Friday.
